Something is changing. In the past week alone we had at least three announcements for films with Sapphic storylines.

I would not dare to say we are approaching equality of representation — don’t even get me started on that Killing Eve ending — but we are definitely changing direction in terms of how Sapphic women are represented on screen.

I could write a full essay on this topic — and I hope I do eventually — but for now I want to bring you some of the most current news on the Sapphic stories that have popped up on our radar.

MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING BUT MAKE IT BISEXUAL!

Apparently Ariana DeBose, the first openly queer woman to win an Oscar, will be executive producing and starring Two and Only, an original screenplay by Jen Rivas-DeLoose, a Latina LGBTQIA+ writer.

If you are a rom-com aficionado, definitely keep an eye out for this one!

CRUSHING HARD ON THIS NEW FILM

A WHOLE NEW LEAGUE

My final announcement for the week comes in the form of baseball cards. Yes, you read that right.

Amazon Prime decided to announce the arrival of the new A League of their Own series by sharing images of the characters as if they were famous players in vintage baseball cards. We don’t know much about each character yet, but we are told the show will focus heavily on topics of sexuality and race.

This is just some of the news we got and as you can see, there are a lot of camp, cheesy rom-coms, a show focusing on queer women and out-and-proud sapphic women making changes from behind the scenes.

Let’s hope this is a sign of new life for Sapphic content, and not just some more media companies cashing in. We shall wait and see!
